What happens

Captain Bowman of the state police hunts an escaped psychopath who killed a man and fled into the reservation country near Gallup. Rabbit Stocking, a Navajo who has helped the white man before, is ordered to guide the officer to the fugitive. Rabbit Stocking has been ordered to guide the officer around, and the pursuit moves across the desert and up the trail toward the mesa. The tale draws on the Navajo people's history of defending the mesa against the white man a hundred years earlier. This is the Suspense radio series, first broadcast October 30, 1956, and the transcript gives no lead actors. The account here covers only the opening portion of the episode.

The Navajo reservation near Gallup, New Mexico, including the trading post, the desert, and Red Cloud Mesa.

Characters: Captain Bowman, Rabbit Stocking, Yellow Salt, Ben Yazzie, George, Old Man Torn Face

Listen for: The climb up the narrow trail toward Red Cloud Mesa as the clouds gather, and the tension between the officer and Rabbit Stocking.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
