What happens

Martha, an orphan, lives with her wealthy, invalid Aunt Abby, who treats her harshly and makes her read romance stories aloud. The aunt's new houseguest, Neil Garson, a distant relative and writer, arrives and charms the household. Martha falls in love with him as the aunt plans to leave him half of her estate. Neil seems to be the one pressing Martha toward a particular course in the garden and the greenhouse, where poison is kept among the roses. Martha is drawn into the situation as the household's tensions grow. Presented in the Suspense series on December 27, 1945, with Marsha Hunt in the lead role.

Listen for: The conversations in the garden and drawing room as the tension between Martha and Neil grows

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
