What happens

John Forsyth, a clever Englishman, discovers his wife and best friend Raymond Tillerton are having an affair and hatches a plan around New Year's Eve. He is tried and sentenced to prison for their deaths, despite the bodies never being found. In prison he meets a fellow inmate, William Waters, and begins a cruel experiment on him. Years later Forsyth is released and returns to Paris to settle matters. The story is told largely in Forsyth's own voice, with his self-regard and his scheme unfolding through courtroom scenes, prison dialogue and a final encounter at a Paris apartment.

London, then a courtroom and prison, and finally an apartment in Paris on New Year's Eve

Characters: John Forsyth, Pamela Felice Forsyth, Raymond Elton Tillerton, William Waters, Henry Jenkins

Listen for: Forsyth's narration explaining his intellectual superiority, and the courtroom and prison scenes where he taunts William Waters

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
