What happens
Paul Foster, recovering in hospital after a car accident that killed Ellen Masterson, is haunted by guilt and a recurring dream. Dr. Locke, the hospital physician, grows concerned that Foster may be moving toward self-destruction, and confides in Foster's wife Mary and the injured husband of the dead woman, Ernest Masterson. The episode is from the series Suspense, originally broadcast on March 18, 1962, and stars Paul McGrath as Dr. Locke. Foster leaves the hospital and sets out on a train trip with Mary, and the doctor and Masterson race to learn where they are and what might happen next.
A hospital and a train journey toward Providence, with a stop in Abington, in the early 1960s.
Characters: Dr. Locke, Paul Foster, Mary Foster, Ernest Masterson, Miss Clemens
Listen for: Foster's recurring dream and his fragmented confessions, and the telephone calls between Dr. Locke and the hotel in Abington.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
