What happens

David and Dorothy drive along a stormy Long Island road after a radio warning about Nellie Goller, a dangerous escaped mental patient who has killed several people with a meat cleaver. Taking a shortcut through the woods, they run out of gas and find themselves stranded in the dark. As the rain falls, Dorothy grows increasingly frightened, and a strange woman appears at their car window, adding to their fear and mistrust. The couple argues over what to do while they wait for help in the wet, isolated countryside. This is an episode of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on May 10, 1959, starring Howard Duff and Ida Lupino.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
