What happens

Johnny, a wounded member of an Irish revolutionary organization, is left behind after a botched raid on a wages office. Murphy and his comrades try to keep him hidden while the police search the city. Johnny drifts in and out of consciousness, unsure what has happened to him, as he is moved from a shelter to a tenement room and later to a street where an informer named Shell is involved. Suspense is the series, and Odd Man Out is the play, performed on the program on December 30, 1954, with Ben Wright starring as Johnny.

A city in Ireland during a night raid and manhunt, moving between a wages office, an air raid shelter, a back street, and a tenement.

Characters: Johnny, Murphy, Nolan, Pat, Dennis, Agnes, Shell, Mr. Fenty

Listen for: Johnny's confusion and pain as he wakes in different places, and the shifting loyalties of the men around him.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
