What happens

Johnny Burke, a wounded member of a Belfast-style underground group, is left hiding after a failed raid on a mill office. His comrades Murphy and Nolan try to get him help while police search the streets. Johnny drifts through the night in pain, moving between the shelter, the rooms of Agnes and the woman Cheryl, and the rough informer Shell. The Suspense episode, broadcast on February 11, 1952, stars James Mason and was adapted from F.L. Green's novel Odd Man Out. The story follows Johnny's confused and feverish attempts to escape while the men around him argue over his fate.

A city at night in Northern Ireland, including a mill office, a bombed street, an air raid shelter and a tenement building

Characters: Johnny Burke, Murphy, Nolan, Pat, Dennis, Agnes, Cheryl, Shell

Listen for: Johnny's fevered, half-remembered thoughts and the arguments between Murphy, Shell and Cheryl over whether to trust anyone

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
