What happens
Michael Lanyard, a reformed gentleman thief, and his valet Jamison attend a weekend party at the Long Island estate of Rutherford Barnes. Shortly after an unsettling phone call from a frightened young telephone operator, Betty Larson, they find her drowned in the pool during a beauty contest. Lanyard suspects murder, and the party turns tense as guests quarrel and the sheriff is called. The transcript gives the premise and the first part of the investigation, and the broadcast is an episode of the radio series Suspense, first aired on July 20, 1943, with Warren William as Lanyard and Eric Bloor as Jamison.
The Long Island estate of Rutherford Barnes, its swimming pool, and the grounds during a weekend charity bazaar

Listen for: Lanyard's reasoning about when Betty Larson actually died, and the clues he finds at the pool and the old well
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
