What happens

Physicist Lee Thurston directs a test of the atomic bomb Jackhammer in the Nevada desert after the shot fails to detonate. Staff at control point must find the cause of the misfire while Marines and civil defense men wait nearby under orders to stay put. Frank Butler and John Grant are sent up a 500-foot tower to check the bomb's cab, where the fault seems to lie. Jack Carson stars in this Suspense episode, written by Tom Hanley and produced by William N. Robeson, first broadcast on October 6, 1957. The story follows the men as they work through the danger on the tower.

A test site on the desert, with a 500-foot tower holding an atomic bomb, control point fourteen miles south, and a Marine trench and civil defense bunker nearby.

Characters: Lee Thurston, John Grant, Frank Butler, Barney, Jack Carson

Listen for: The climb up the tower and the tense removal of a wrench jammed in the bomb's door circuit.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
