What happens
Commissioner Mallory visits the Santa Barbara plantation of Liningen, a gruff old man, to warn him of an approaching column of army ants that threatens to strip everything in its path. Liningen calmly refuses to flee and instead dismisses the warning, showing the commissioner his defenses: a wide water-filled ditch, a dam controlling the flow, and storage tanks of petrol. The commissioner watches the ants reach the ditch and begin to cross it on floating bridges of bark and leaves while Liningen directs the defense. This is the Suspense episode Liningen versus the Ants, broadcast November 29, 1959.
A plantation on the upper reaches of the Santa Barbara River, in the Toto Santo District, surrounded by a water-filled ditch.
Characters: Liningen, Commissioner Mallory
Listen for: Liningen's refusal to retreat as the ants advance, and the commissioner's growing reluctance to believe the threat is real.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
