What happens

Ben Ward, a driver hauling high explosives, reluctantly takes one more dangerous run to pay for a nurse for his wife Kate and their children. Dispatcher Jardine offers him a large fee to carry dynamite to a burning oil field at Westfield. Along the route Ben stops at a diner, where a stranger who has just robbed a bank in Lawrence forces him to keep driving. The stranger, a fugitive, threatens to shoot and blow them both up as police roadblocks loom. Ben must find a way to keep the truck and the town safe.

Late at night on highways across the American Midwest, from a dispatch office to an isolated diner and into the outskirts of Fredericksburg and a river town.

Characters: Ben, Kate, Jardine, Eddie, Chief Higgins, Jake, the stranger

Listen for: The tense exchanges between Ben and the armed stranger inside the truck cab as they approach the police roadblock.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
