What happens
Captain John Martin, a New York Air National Guard pilot and copywriter, learns that his estranged wife Millie in Los Angeles plans to expose his past forgery charge to his employer, Callaway. Martin secretly takes a jet cross-country, riding a high-altitude wind called the jet stream, and goes to confront her at her house. The episode is part of the Suspense series, first broadcast on December 1, 1957, starring Frank Lovejoy. The story follows Martin's journey east through the night and his return to his office in New York the next morning, where he learns of news from Los Angeles and a lieutenant from homicide begins to ask questions about his activities.
New York and Los Angeles, mid-twentieth century, including an Air National Guard airfield at Mitchell Field, Long Island
Characters: John Martin, Millie Martin, Vicki, Bud Lynch, Daphne Forsyth, Joe Forsyth, Lieutenant Berman, Johnson
Listen for: Martin's flight instrument card and the key to Bud Lynch's desk, and the jet stream's effect on his flight times
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
