What happens
Casey, a hired man, drives a bound prisoner named Sam along a coastal road to a deserted fish camp near the water, where he has orders to tie him to a pole and leave him. Sam, bound and frightened, tries to talk Casey out of it and pleads for his life. Casey admits he is only following his boss's instructions, and the two men argue over who is in charge. The transcript covers only the first part of the play, and Sam's arrangement with the men remains unclear at that point. The episode is from the CBS series Suspense, originally broadcast on July 11, 1946, sponsored by Roma Wines, with Sheldon Leonard as Casey and Elliot Reed as Sam.
A deserted fish camp by the ocean on a coastal dirt road, at dusk, in the 1940s.
Characters: Casey, Sam
Listen for: Casey's insistence that he is only doing what he was told, and Sam's pleas as the sun goes down.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
