What happens
Paul Edwards, an overworked business executive, is advised by his doctor to seek an evening's diversion. Taking the advice, he leaves his office late and wanders into unfamiliar parts of the city, where he overhears two men plotting against a woman. Suspense is an American radio anthology of thrillers, and this play aired on July 4, 1946, with Leon Ames in the lead role. The story follows Edwards as he becomes drawn into a dangerous situation, with a gun, a subway chase and a park encounter raising the tension.
A modern American city, including an office building, a subway, a taxi and a park.
Characters: Paul Edwards, Dr. Hatton, Lily, Lois, Mr. Abbott, Joel, Maxie, Fred
Listen for: Leon Ames as Paul Edwards, and the overheard conversation in the Pirochino restaurant.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
