What happens

Dr. Ferris, a scientist in the year 2500, has built Max, a massive robot with an electronic brain that operates without emotion. Jack, his assistant, grows increasingly resentful of taking orders from the machine as they work on a solar energy project in the laboratory. When Ferris leaves for the Capitol, his son Philip takes charge of the work, and a visiting physicist, Dr. Larkin, questions whether such a mind should be trusted with decisions at all. The story is part of the Suspense radio series, first broadcast on March 4, 1962, starring Leon Janney as Dr. Ferris.

A laboratory on the outskirts of a great city in the year 2500, with a nearby control room.

Characters: Dr. Ferris, Jack, Max, Sally, Philip, Dr. Larkin, Thomas

Listen for: Max's flat, emotionless voice giving orders as the solar energy test begins to overheat.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
