What happens

Captain Finlay, a homicide detective in Washington, D.C., investigates the beating death of Joseph Samuels in his East Street apartment. A soldier's wallet, belonging to Corporal Arthur Mitchell, is found behind the sofa cushions, and Finlay sets out to locate Mitchell. He questions the nervous Sergeant Keeley, a friend of Mitchell's, along with Montgomery and others from the bar where the men met Samuels. The story is told in an hour-long episode of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on April 10, 1948, with Robert Young as Finlay, Robert Mitchum as Keeley and Robert Ryan as Mottie, the leads of the RKO film Crossfire.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
