Mrs. Edney and her granddaughter Florence are leaving their house after strange noises and a burning smell have unsettled them. Anna, the maid, and Charles, a visitor worried about the house, hear the unexplained sounds as well. The real estate agent Mr. Peters is called in to help arrange the move, but the household's troubles continue into the night. Florence grieves for a dog named Cricket, who died in a wartime bombing that destroyed the house, and her fever worsens. Listen for: The strange noises from upstairs and the smell of burning, and how Florence's talk of Cricket shapes what the household believes.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
