What happens
Henry Doyle, a messenger for the 42nd Street Bank, loses $50,000 in a satchel after falling asleep on a park bench, and is convicted of theft and sentenced to prison. Years earlier, as a poor child, he dreamed of wealth and the ocean liners sailing to distant places. After his release he returns to a pawn shop where he left a sealed package, but he cannot recall the name he wrote on it. A woman named Lucille approaches him on a deserted city dock and listens as he tries to remember his past. The episode is part of the Suspense series, first broadcast on March 22, 1945, and stars Lloyd Nolan as Henry Doyle.
New York City, including a deserted city dock on the Hudson River, a 42nd Street bank, a state penitentiary, and a pawn shop by the waterfront.
Characters: Henry Doyle, Lucille, Mr. Brazil, Mr. Fazell
Listen for: Henry trying to recall the name he wrote on the package, and his conversation with Lucille on the dock.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
