What happens

Alec Thompson, a bank accountant, has secretly taken $200,000 from the Garrison estate he manages and hidden it in a box. He sneaks past the night watchman Hank Wilson and heads for a steamship bound for France, where he plans to start a new life with Celia. Aboard ship, a careless slip of paper threatens their plans, and Alec's anxiety grows as he returns to his apartment and meets his wife Helen. The story turns on small mistakes and mounting tension, and the transcript ends with Alec and Celia facing a sudden crisis at the ship.

A bank office in an unnamed city on a Friday evening, Alec's apartment, and an ocean liner leaving port for Europe.

Characters: Alec Thompson, Hank Wilson, Celia, Helen, Bill Hagen

Listen for: Listen for the slip of paper that Alec forgets, and for how Hank Wilson and Helen each react when they catch him acting strangely.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
