What happens
Gloria, a young dancer closing her Chicago run, is visited backstage by Vincent Hawthorne, a stranger who has arranged a blind date with her after the show. Gloria, whose late mother Diane was also a performer, agrees to a midnight supper at a restaurant the two of them once visited. The evening takes an uneasy turn as Hawthorne's manner grows strange and he produces a trick knife. Charles Loughton and June Havoc star in this Suspense play, broadcast on September 29, 1949, sponsored by Autolite.
A theatre dressing room in Chicago, late at night, after a stage performance.
Characters: Gloria, Vincent Hawthorne
Listen for: Pay attention to Hawthorne's shifting tone as he talks about loneliness, and to the trick knife and the dressing room key.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
