What happens
Robert Tasker, a former convict, works as a clerk for lawyer Max Krager, who gave him a second chance after his parole. Tensions flare in the office when Arthur Heinz, Krager's partner, learns of Tasker's past and clashes with him over a rumored $50,000 that Heinz is supposed to have received. Heinz is later found dead in his office, and Tasker is arrested and charged with murder. The episode is the Suspense radio play The Defense Rests, aired October 6, 1949, with Van Johnson starring as the defendant. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
