What happens
George Rogers plots to kill his wife May and take her $60,000 inheritance, so they can live comfortably in Mexico. Starring William Redfield and Elaine Ross, this Suspense episode from December 10, 1961 was written for the series by Dave Gilbert. George begins by sneaking a recording of a crying woman into the house, hoping to convince May that she is losing her mind and needs sleeping pills. He recruits their friend Thelma Stevens to spread gossip about May's supposed depression and a family history of suicide. As May grows more exhausted from the pills, George prepares the next step of his scheme.
A suburban home in an American town, around 1960s
Characters: George Rogers, May Rogers, Thelma Stevens, Mr. Phillips
Listen for: George's carefully staged record of a crying woman, and his steady, unnerving calm as he describes his plan to his unsuspecting wife.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
