What happens

Peyton Farquhar, an Alabama planter, is about to be hanged from a railroad bridge at Owl Creek during the Civil War, accused of sabotage. As the rope gives way and he falls into the creek, his thoughts drift back to a conversation with a Union corporal who had visited his plantation the night before. The story follows Farquhar's desperate escape through the forest and swamp, his encounter with a former enslaved man named Jethro, and the fears that pursue him. Victor Jory stars in this Suspense episode, adapted by William N. Robinson from the story by Ambrose Bierce. It first aired on December 9, 1956.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
