What happens

Dickie Keith, once Hollywood's celebrated boyish leading man, has fallen on hard times and is out of work. His wife Jean struggles to keep the household together and care for their young son, Lumpy. After a violent quarrel, Dickie disappears, and Jean finds that Harry Lanman, the studio man who had dropped him, has been stabbed. Jean is determined to find Dickie and clear his name, and she follows the few clues she can gather. The episode is part of the radio series Suspense, starring Mercedes McCambridge.

Hollywood, California, in the late 1950s

Characters: Jean Keith, Dickie Keith, Harry Lanman, Lumpy, Charlie, Detective Carlson, Mrs. Vogel, Maurice Byrne

Listen for: Lumpy's first sentence, 'Go see pretty lady', and the moment Jean finds the portrait on the wall

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
