What happens
Suspense presents Alibi, first broadcast in 1957, with Everett Sloan in the lead. A man named Mark hires a small-time operator named Barney to kill his business partner, Hannigan, and arranges an alibi through a contact named Allen. Things start to unravel as the planned meeting at the Pelican falls through and Mark finds himself in trouble with the police. Mark tries desperately to call off the deal, but his efforts to reach Barney and make the arrangement right keep going wrong. The episode follows his mounting panic as he moves through a series of bars, a phone booth and a chance encounter with a drunk named Harry.
A city in the 1950s, including a grimy storefront, a bar called the Pelican and the Green Parrot across the street, and the streets nearby.
Characters: Mark, Barney, Hannigan, Allen, Lee, Harry
Listen for: Mark's desperate phone calls to Barney as he tries to call off the killing and his increasingly frantic efforts to build an alibi.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
