What happens
Clark Kent, the mild-mannered reporter, and Superman investigate a sinister threat from the vulture, a criminal who holds Daily Planet copy boy Jimmy Olsen captive and sends a faked recording of torture to Kent and editor Perry White. Kent traces the recording to a home recording machine and a repair man who serviced it, which leads him toward the vulture's hideout. Jimmy is tied to a chair while a mechanical man is set to fire a rifle at him. Superman arrives, frees Jimmy, and the mechanical man is smashed. Kent is then called to the office at dawn and told to pack warm clothing for sub-zero weather. This episode is part one of a two-part story titled Trouble in Athabascus, broadcast on January 22, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
