What happens
Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen and their cowhand friend Tumbleweed Jones find a silver arrow engraved with a riddle in a gopher hole near Tumbleweed's range. The verse mentions a galloping steer and a stream, and the group sets out to solve it. They visit an old prospector called Hopeful Jake, who recalls a masked figure known as the Silver Arrow, a guardian of law and order who once saved his life. Hopeful Jake warns them against going to Dead Man's Gulch, a deserted mining town, and the three decide to investigate anyway. Part one ends in the ghost town after Jimmy's sudden scream is heard.
