What happens

Superman and Clark Kent work to stop Max Heller, a foreign agent who has built an army of huge radio-controlled mechanical men. Lois Lane is held prisoner in a deserted factory near Metropolis, where Heller forces her to watch one of the steel giants lumber out of control toward a shipyard five miles away. Clark Kent visits inventor Wallace Thornton, who explains how Heller's plane escaped the city and warns that the blueprints for the mechanical men may be in enemy hands. Word of the monster spreads through the city, and the shipyard workers flee in panic. The episode is part nine of The Adventures of Superman, first aired on January 7, 1942.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
