What happens
Clark Kent, a reporter for the Daily Planet, accompanies explorer and archaeologist Major Evans Dover on an expedition to Central America to uncover Mayan ruins. Pilot Jack Corvois flies them to a native village near the jungle ruins, where the high priest Kamado appears unfriendly. Near a temple, a huge stone is sent crashing down on the pair, and Kent later catches a native who admits to being ordered to kill them. A poisoned dart then kills the captured man before he can explain more. Major Dover reveals that the expedition has a purpose beyond the ruins, and a goddess called Ashta is mentioned. This is the first part of the Superman transcription feature, first aired on August 12, 1940.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
