What happens

Clark Kent and Lois Lane, reporters for the Daily Planet, investigate strange events in Freeville, a drought-stricken farming town where townspeople refuse to talk and the local telegrapher has been targeted. Clark pursues the missing telegrapher Abner Sykes, while Lois accepts an invitation from Jerry Barton, leader of a group of war veterans homesteading nearby, to a secret meeting that he promises will explain the mystery. Lois and Jerry set off through the woods on foot toward the gathering. This is part eight of the 1947 Adventures of Superman radio serial, which aired on January 30, 1947.

Freeville, a farming town in a severe drought, and the surrounding countryside, including a toll bridge sixty miles north and a wooded trail leading to a clearing.

Characters: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Superman, Jerry Barton, Phil Dyer, Abner Sykes

Listen for: Jerry Barton's explanation of the veterans' grievances and the warning that the meeting's guards are watching for outsiders.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
