What happens
Lois Lane, a reporter for the Metropolis Daily Planet, has been missing in the drought-stricken farming area of Freeville, where tensions run high between local residents and a group of war veterans who took homesteads nearby. Clark Kent searches the veterans' farms without success, then finds Lois staggering into the little telegraph office of Abner Sykes, the elderly telegrapher, exhausted and in shock. She describes being seized, drugged, held in a dark mine, and warned to leave town by midnight. Clark presses Sykes to explain the town's fear, and Sykes agrees to talk. This is the fifth part of the Superman serial, which airs on the Mutual network with Kellogg's PEP as sponsor.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
