What happens

Clark Kent and Jimmy Olsen, lost in tunnels beneath a dead volcano, discover a vast open pit where chained men dig up a dark ore that Clark identifies as pitch blend, the source of radium. Escaping through a reduction chamber, they find a frail prisoner, Professor Julius Browning, who was once a respected radiologist. He explains that Deutsch, who claimed to be a fellow scientist, has forced him to run the radium operation. Their attempt to leave is complicated as searchers close in and the mine's leader grows impatient over the labor shortage. The pair must find a way to the shore, where Browning points out distant lights moving on the water.

A dead volcano island with a radium mine: a deep open pit, a reduction chamber, and winding man-made tunnels leading to a beach.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
