What happens

Stories Pacific Powerland presents the tale of Yakimosity, a small Washington community whose residents split into camps when the Northern Pacific Railway announces its terminal will sit four miles north. Old Town residents refuse to leave, while New Town backers side with the railroad. Work crews lay tracks bypassing the old town, and over the following months dozens of buildings, including homes, stores and a hotel, are jacked onto rollers and hauled by mule or horse team to the new site. The episode, broadcast on October 19, 1966, follows the move and the growth that follows, with the new community named North Yakima and the old town later known as Union Gap.

Yakimosity, Washington, and the sagebrush flat four miles north, 1884

Characters: Nelson Olstead, David Guyland

Listen for: The account of buildings being hauled four miles by team, and the Guyland House carrying on business during its month-long move

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
