What happens

Nelson Olmsted takes listeners beachcombing on the Oregon coast, where a family searches the driftwood and sand at dawn for glass fishing floats. The floats, cast ashore after breaking loose from fishing nets, are prized by collectors. The story describes where the floats come from, their many nationalities, colors, and sizes, and why the seaside beaches near Seaside and Gearhart are good places to find them. It is an episode of Stories of Pacific Powerland, broadcast on October 21, 1966.

A misty Oregon coast beach at dawn, near Seaside and Gearhart, after a Pacific storm.

Characters: Nelson Olmsted, Clint Gueber

Listen for: The explanations of where glass fishing floats come from and how they reach the Oregon shore, and the descriptions of the different types of floats.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
