Science fiction from old-time radio, whole stories back to back: X Minus One, Dimension X, Space Patrol and more. Rivet, a tin robot who learned English from 1950s radio, minds the controls. A Stupid Potato show.
Signal From Tomorrow is a free old time radio science fiction channel from Stupid Potato: complete sci-fi radio dramas from the 1950s, played back to back 24 hours a day. It plays X Minus One, Dimension X, Space Patrol, Planet Man, Exploring Tomorrow and 2000 Plus: the stories the atomic age told itself about rockets, robots, Martians and the end of the world, many of them adapted from the great science fiction writers of the day. Listen free online with no account, or follow the Signal From Tomorrow podcast.
NBC's Dimension X (1950-1951) and its successor X Minus One (1955-1958) adapted stories by Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Robert A. Heinlein and other writers from Astounding and Galaxy magazines, and X Minus One opened with a countdown to blastoff. Their versions of Bradbury's "Mars Is Heaven," "The Veldt" and "There Will Come Soft Rains," Heinlein's "The Green Hills of Earth" and Asimov's "Nightfall" are still among the best science fiction ever heard on the air. Space Patrol went the other way: rocket-ship adventure for kids, with Commander Buzz Corry and Cadet Happy.
Your host is Rivet, a polite tin robot who learned English from 1950s radio and is certain the future already happened. He is earnest, a little confused by humans, delighted by rockets and ray guns, and his malapropisms are sweet, never mean. The channel is for science fiction fans, Bradbury and Asimov readers, Twilight Zone and Star Trek viewers curious about what came before, and anyone who likes the future with vacuum tubes. X Minus One, Dimension X, Space Patrol, Planet Man and Exploring Tomorrow also have their own podcast pages here.
