What happens

In a sweltering Central American banana port, card-cheating cafe entertainer Lee Donley is jailed, and the bandit Rosario is also held there. Nick Butler, a plantation foreman, is pressed into service by fruit company boss Steve Case to restore production, though he is drawn into a rivalry with Case over Lee. Joan Bennett plays Lee Donley, James Cagney plays Nick Butler, Brian Donlevy plays Steve Case, and George Tobias plays Rosario. The broadcast is the Screen Guild Theater adaptation of the film Torrid Zone, aired December 8, 1940. The first two acts establish the rivalries and Rosario's escape from custody.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
