What happens

Josef Tura, a Polish actor and ham who now works as a waiter after the German invasion, returns to his Warsaw apartment to find his wife Maria missing and a stranger, Lieutenant Stanislav Sobonski, asleep in his bed. Sobonski explains that Professor Siletsky, a Nazi spy, has arrived in Warsaw carrying a list of Polish underground patriots, and the group must stop him before he hands the list to Colonel Erhardt of the Gestapo. Tura, Maria and Sobonski begin planning how to get the list away from the professor. The episode is a Screen Guild Theater adaptation of the 1943 film To Be or Not to Be, broadcast on January 18, 1943, with William Powell as Josef Tura, Diana Lewis as Maria, John Hall as Sobonski and Sig Ruman as Erhardt.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
