What happens
On a rainy night at the Connecticut State Prison, the warden and the prison chaplain wait out the hours before an execution. The condemned man, who calls himself James Dyke, has refused to reveal his true identity for four months, and thousands of letters from relatives have reached the warden's desk. The warden decides to bring Dyke to his office for a last appeal, and a young woman from Ohio arrives claiming he is her missing brother. Starring Humphrey Bogart, Dorothy McGuire, Robert Middlemass and Pedro de Cordoba, the Screen Guild Theater broadcast of The Valiant aired on September 17, 1945.
The Connecticut State Prison warden's office on a rainy night before an execution
Characters: Warden, Father Daily, James Dyke, Josephine Paris
Listen for: The warden's last attempt to get Dyke to reveal who he really is, and the young visitor's meeting with him
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
