What happens

Frank Chambers, a drifter, takes a job at a roadside lunch counter and gasoline station owned by Nick Smith. Nick's young wife, Cora, is restless and unhappy in the marriage, and Frank soon finds himself drawn to her. The story is adapted from James M. Cain's novel and presented on the Screen Guild Theater, broadcast on June 16, 1947, with Lana Turner as Cora and John Garfield as Frank. As the two grow closer, they begin to talk about what they might do together, and the business that Nick has built starts to matter a great deal to both of them.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
