What happens

Screen Guild Theater presents The Secret Heart, broadcast on November 17, 1947, starring Claudette Colbert and Walter Pidgeon. Lee Adams, a widow with two children, returns from a trip to New York and is drawn to Chase Adams's friend Chris Matthews, who was her late husband's old friend. Chase has returned from the Navy and is planning a job with Chris's shipbuilding firm, while Penny, his younger sister, keeps to her piano practice. The story centers on Lee's feelings and the family's strained relationships as they gather around the house and the family's history.

Hollywood radio production; the story takes place in New York, Providence, and at the Adams family farm in Rhode Island

Characters: Lee Adams, Chris Matthews, Chase Adams, Penny Adams, Larry Adams, Brandon Reynolds

Listen for: Lee's conversations with Chris and the family's tense exchanges about Larry Adams

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
