What happens

Fred Derry, Al Stevenson and Homer Parish, three returning servicemen, share a flight home and each faces an uneasy return to civilian life. Al finds his wife Milly and daughter Peggy changed by his absence, while Fred, the former captain, is drawn to Peggy and struggles with his own marriage. Homer, whose hands were lost in the war, returns to his sweetheart Wilma and his uncle's tavern. Frederick March, Myrna Loy and Teresa Wright star in this Screen Guild Theater adaptation of the Samuel Goldwyn film, broadcast on November 24, 1947, with the story's first part presented here.

A town in America shortly after the Second World War, including the Stevenson family home and the Corn Belt National Bank.

Listen for: Al's frustration at home and the first sign of Peggy's attraction to Fred.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
