What happens
Lord Burnstead's gentleman's gentleman, Ruggles, loses a card game to an American, Egbert Floud, and is taken to Red Gap, Washington, to serve the Floud household. In the Screen Guild Theater's adaptation of Ruggles of Red Gap, broadcast on December 17, 1945, Charles Laughton and Charlie Ruggles play their original roles. Ruggles is soon mingling with the townspeople, where he discovers his fondness for the frontier and its ideas of equality. Effie Floud expects him to keep his place, but he begins to question the life he was born to.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
