What happens
In 1885, a rancher named Larry Kincaid is found shot dead, and the town's men form a posse to hunt down suspected rustlers. Judge Tyler warns them to leave the matter to the law, but the riders set out anyway, led by Major Tetley and joined by Davies, a storekeeper who hopes to keep the posse in check. Kincaid's son Gerald rides along against his father's wishes, and the group soon reaches a camp where three strangers are held. The Screen Guild Theater presents this adaptation of Walter Van Tilburg Clark's novel, starring Harry Davenport as Davies, Edward Arnold as Major Tetley, William Eythe as Gerald, and Jess Lee Brooks as the Reverend Sparks. The broadcast originally aired on September 18, 1944, on CBS.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
