What happens

On October 29, 1929, Jim Emerson, head of a Wall Street firm, is ruined by the crash and sits alone in his study with a revolver on his desk. A letter arrives from a young boy, written by Mary Lane, a woman who recalls their wartime romance, and as Jim reads it, the story returns to their first meeting at a country club in Norfolk and the brief time they spent together before he shipped out. The Lady Esther Screen Guild Players present this radio adaptation of the film Only Yesterday, with Loretta Young as Mary Lane and Joseph Cotton as Jim Emerson. The broadcast aired on December 6, 1943.

Wall Street and Norfolk, Virginia, in the late 1910s and 1920s, including a training camp, a city hospital, and a New York apartment

Characters: Jim Emerson, Mary Lane, Julia Murray, Amy Brackenridge, Benson, David, Jimmy, Harry

Listen for: The letter Jim reads in his study, which reveals Mary's history with him and the boy he never knew about

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
