What happens

David Smith and Anne Krausheimer, a married couple, quarrel again on New Year's Day, 1945. David then learns from a lawyer, Mr. Deaver, that their Idaho wedding license is invalid, because the ceremony took place in Nevada, so they are not legally married. Anne's mother arrives to comfort her, and David's partner, Jefferson Custer III, offers to help. The Screen Guild Theater broadcast presents this comedy with Louise Albritton, Preston Foster and Stuart Erwin.

Present-day New York, January 1, 1945, in the Smiths' apartment and in David's law office.

Characters: David Smith, Anne Krausheimer, Jefferson Custer III, Mr. Deaver, Mrs. Smith

Listen for: Listen for the moment David learns that the marriage was never legal, and how the couple's frequent quarrels set up the farce.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
