What happens
Laura Jesson, a happily married housewife in suburban England, meets Dr. Alec Harvey after he removes a cinder from her eye at Milford Junction station. Over several Thursdays they meet, share lunches and an afternoon at the pictures, and begin to see each other with growing feeling. Laura must reckon with her marriage to her devoted husband Fred and their children, while Alec weighs the same obligations. This Screen Guild Theater adaptation of the 1945 film Brief Encounter stars Irene Dunne and Herbert Marshall, and the broadcast aired on January 26, 1948.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
