What happens

A.J. Raffles, a gentleman amateur thief, is a guest at the Melrose estate when a stranger named Cameron arrives, apparently a detective. Raffles's friend Bunny Manders is in debt after a bad cheque, and Raffles has agreed to help him by targeting Lady Melrose's emeralds. Lord Melrose has moved the jewels, and Inspector Mackenzie is keeping watch at the house. This is the Screen Director's Playhouse adaptation of Raffles, broadcast on NBC on September 14, 1951, starring Douglas Fairbanks. The transcript ends partway through the story as Raffles, leaving his room, sees an unexpected intruder entering Lady Melrose's bedroom.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
