What happens

Tom Jeffords, a former army captain prospecting for gold in Apache country, is recruited by Colonel Bernall to scout against the Apache, but he is troubled by the bloodshed. After saving a wounded young Apache boy, he resolves to seek out the Apache leader Cochise in an effort to end the fighting. The episode is part of the Screen Director's Playhouse series and was first broadcast on September 7, 1951, with James Stewart, Jeff Chandler and Deborah Padgett reprising their film roles. Jeffords travels into the mountain stronghold, where he begins to forge an uneasy connection with Cochise and makes a friendship with the young Sun Siret. The story follows the tension between the two sides as the men of Tucson grow suspicious of him.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
