What happens
Abby Fortitude, a widow, enrolls at Pointer College with her daughter Susan so she can use a scholarship named for her family. Her daughter Susan is a student in Professor Richard Michaels' English class, and Abby takes the same course, keeping her identity secret from classmates. Richard grows increasingly attentive toward Abby as they begin working together after class. This is the Screen Director's Playhouse presentation of Mother Is a Freshman, broadcast on August 30, 1951, starring Loretta Young and William Lundigan. The transcript covers only the first part of the story.
A widow's home in the city, then Pointer College, a small campus with ivy-covered halls and a long tradition.
Characters: Abby Fortitude, Susan Fortitude, Richard Michaels, John Heslett
Listen for: Abby's first meeting with Richard in his office, and her attempts to keep her secret from her classmates.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
