What happens

Helen Ferguson, a pregnant woman in New York, is alone and desperate, having come east to find Stephen Morley. On a train to Callfield, Illinois, she meets Patrice Hartness, a young bride traveling to meet her new husband's family, and an accident leaves Helen mistaken for Patrice. The Harkness family welcomes her into their home, where she grows close to Bill and to the newborn son. Helen struggles with the lie she has been swept into, and the family's trust and kindness make her guilt harder to bear. This episode of Screen Directors Playhouse, a 1951 NBC broadcast, stars Barbara Stanwick and Lyle Betker.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
